A Reserva Rioja made from Tempranillo and other varieties grown in old, low-yielding vineyards in Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa. The clay-limestone soils help define the origin of this Marqués de Cáceres wine.
The grapes are hand-picked and sorted. Controlled-temperature fermentation is followed by extended maceration, with malolactic fermentation taking place in steel and barriques. The wine is aged for 20 months in French oak, half in new oak and half in one- or two-year-old oak, then rests in the bottle for at least two years.
A full-bodied Rioja with ripe fruit and a warming sensation that adds to its volume. The tannic structure is pronounced, but the maturity of the tannins lends a broad, smooth texture and a firmer grip on the finish. The aromatic profile combines cooked black fruit, licorice and balsamic notes, cocoa, cloves and toasted nuances. The long aging in French oak leaves a distinctive imprint, interwoven with the fruit, while the time spent in the bottle promotes integration. A structured, enveloping style with a long, spice- and oak-driven finish.
