Leah comes from the Raupo Creek vineyard in Marlborough’s Omaka Valley, which is rich in clay and farmed according to organic and biodynamic principles. The cuvée brings together six Pinot Noir clones.

The destemmed grapes ferment in small batches with indigenous yeasts, remaining on the skins for three to four weeks with gentle punch-downs. Eight months follow in French oak, with 11% new barrels, with spontaneous malolactic fermentation; the wine is lightly filtered and not fined.

A medium-bodied Pinot Noir with a concentrated fruit core and a firmer structure than its initial fragrance suggests. The acidity supports the weight, while the soft but present tannins give the finish a dry grip. The texture is dense yet supple, with a juicy progression. Violet, dark forest fruits and plum intertwine with spices and earthy undergrowth nuances. Spontaneous fermentation and understated oak preserve the fruit’s expressiveness. The clay soils of Raupo Creek express themselves in a structured and composed style, with freshness and a lingering savoury finish.
